CASA Advocates play an essential role in the lives of the children they serve, despite what can feel like climbing mountains to reach the goal of best interest. How can we encourage our Advocates when they need extra motivation or support? Rachel Fisher, Director of Student Community Service at Eastern Illinois University, will explore meaningful ways to foster volunteer engagement, empowerment and retention.

     It is no secret that people invest in nonprofits that share their values and create change they care about. To cultivate support in an increasingly competitive environment, we need to understand and articulate the change CASA creates in the community. Nell Edgington, President of Social Velocity, will work with CASA members to explore the power of Messaging Impact.

     Now more than ever, the most successful nonprofit organizations are those that have learned how to mobilize their board, clearly define their role and produce results everyone can point to with pride. Jeanne Dau, Director of Business Solutions Center, Eastern Illinois University, will explore all aspects of life on a nonprofit board from recruitment to ongoing education and celebration of those who give so generously of their time and talents.

     Everywhere we turn, we are being asked to do more with less, especially where our nonprofit organizations are concerned. Join us as Laura Huth, President and CEO of do good Consulting, leads a two part series of effectively identifying and targeting market efforts, implementing low-cost, high impact strategies to increase support and harnessing the power of storytelling as a marketing tool.


• June 7, 2012 - 12:00pm-1:00pm - Webinar - "An Overview of Social Innovation for Nonprofits" - Nell Edgington
     The world of social change is undergoing a dramatic transformation. Nell Edgington, President of Social Velocity, will provide an overview of the social innovation movement and examples of the people and organizations that are solving social problems in new and exciting ways.

     Have you wanted to grow as a program but wondered how? Allie Ray, consultant and former Executive Director of CASA St. Louis County, has the answers. During this two part series, Board and Staff will learn how to boil down the long term goals of strategic plans into annual plans containing precise tasks which will assist in achieving program growth.

     Throughout the state, CASA programs are powered by remarkable advocates who embody the CASA mission. Yet, volunteer recruitment and retention is an ongoing challenge for CASA staff. Laura Huth, President and CEO of do good Consulting, will work with CASA members to examine effective recruitment and retention practices, as well as lead brainstorming exercises on how to keep the momentum going.


• June 27, 2012 - 12:00pm registration/networking: 12:30pm-3:30pm presentation - Bloomington, Illinois - "Outcomes v. Outputs" - Alicia Schatteman
     Defining and measuring the impact of a CASA program is sometimes difficult. Yet, it is necessary to help our community, donors and grant funders realize the importance of our mission. Join us as Alicia Schatteman, NIU Assistant Professor, Division of Public Administration, delves into the differences between outcomes and outputs while exploring overall program measurements we can use to convey the important work we do.
